omg: penguin threads

Coming this fall, Kindle and his friends must make way for a new brand of book: Penguin Threads, a tribute to the tactile reading experience in the form of three embroidered classic book covers. Penguin Group has commissioned artist Jillian Tamaki to hand-embroider book jackets for Black Beauty, The Secret Garden, and Emma, to be released October 2011. While the final printed editions will not be individually embroidered, their original work will be replicated through a technique of sculptural embossing. Plenty of book lovers (including this one) are already abuzz in anticipation of getting their hands on a Penguin Thread edition. As one blog observes, “Miss Tamaki’s… collaboration with Penguin is a match made in book heaven,” and I must positively agree.
