let’s review: where she went

whereshewentWhere She Went, Gayle Forman’s follow-up to If I Stay, picks up three years later and is told from Adam’s perspective. At times the writing felt lacking, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about the lyrics at the beginning of chapters, or the fact that his widely popular, “emocore” band is called Shooting Star. As in the first book, I felt like the telling-over-showing line was pushed, one of the reasons I appreciated the movie adaptation of If I Stay–it brought those extra visuals to the story. I did appreciate how the author approached the delicate subject and Mia’s story, and how she uncovered what Mia and Adam were each going through, where they’ve gone, and where they are now. Their emotional processes felt real, and as a reader, I cared about these characters and was glad to read more of their story.
